Engaging
Who wants to listen to another lecture full of straight facts and other people’s quotes with a monotone delivery? James’ charismatic personable nature makes the audience’s time with him feel more like a conversation than a speech.
His incorporation of stand-up comedy into his speeches makes his points more memorable. Also, James’ background in improvisational comedy helps him riff with audiences making them feel more comfortable and thus building rapport very quickly. University of Delaware’s Associate Director of Residence Life, Michele Michelon Kane, told James: “Thanks again for spending the time with us! If you haven’t already figured it out, I think you found your calling.” Click here to see what others have been saying about James’ presentations at their schools.
Meeting the audience where they are
James fits the needs of whatever audience to which he is speaking. He never assumes what a school or organization is looking for. In addition to this he does not insult the intelligence or experience of the audience. Many other speakers who talk about leadership talk about the same 5 or 6 generic leadership traits (good listener, confidence, honest. competent, creative, inspiring, etc.). Rather than dwelling on these now cliche topics and merely reaffirming the audience’s talents, James’ talks push past that and challenge audiences to take their leadership skills to the next level. His presentation style is very interactive and inclusive. Not afraid to challenge workshop participants, James ensures that everyone is engaged and playing an active role in their growth and development.
